Using Flash Introductions
Websites with flash introductions are quite common throughout today’s Internet. Using flash can be fantastic for many web sites, but is not used very well on others. Also people do not always set their introductions up in a positive way and therefore have a high bounce rate. I wrote this article to go over flash introductions and to explain the right and wrong way to use them.
The first thing you must know is that flash introductions are fantastic, but only if they are used correctly. For example if you built a website to talk about a film, than you can easily make a long yet interesting flash introduction because clearly your audience is interested in watching video. However, if you have decided to create a web site about deodorant, than you should not waste your visitors time with a long drawn out video of deodorant or a deodorant type commercial. These types of web sites are solid examples of niches that need to have shorter flash introductions to keep bounce rates low.
Just to recap, sites selling incidentals should not start out with long flash introductions or commercials, (with the exception of Old Spice, because they’re hilarious. Sites that are promoting a movie or a video game should start out with long and dramatic flash introductions.
Now that you know which sites should have long introductions and which should have shorter introductions, you need to know what to put in the introduction. Obviously sites promoting movies can simply put a teaser trailer into their intro, but it does get trickier with other sites. For instance, a website selling a suit should not waste their visitors time showing them 100 different suits in their introduction. You will lose many potential customers that do not want to view all of your site’s suits for sale. You’ll want to put a very brief intro for this type of site that quickly gets to the point and sends the visitor into the heart of the web site.
Site owners that want to do some free testing should really try and find a free flash website to work with. Want a free flash website, then click here for a free website. This site is great because it lets you make a site that is fully interactive and fun to visit. I can’t think of any other web site I’d rather build a flash site on.
